Full course description
This package of five MREA courses is ideal for those just entering the solar workforce or preparing to take the NABCEP PV Associate exam. With an experienced local NABCEP Professional as an instructor, this in-person training is designed to send participants home with or ready for an entry-level solar credential of their own. This course package includes PV 101, 201, 202, 304, 220, NABCEP PV Associate Exam, and a textbook.
Optional Hybrid Training: PV 101, 201, 202, and 220 can be completed online, with PV 304 scheduled in-person at your convenience.
Courses Included:
- 8 hours Basic Photovoltaics (PV 101)
This is the starting point for all other solar (PV) courses. You’ll learn the basics of how photovoltaic (PV) cells, panels, and systems work, explore different PV system types, look at all the system components, and leave with a general understanding of the technology. - 8 hours PV Site Assessment (PV 201)
This course demonstrates how to recommend a PV system size and type, estimate its annual energy production, propose a location for the array and balance of system components, and summarize the economic impact of a residential (or small commercial) project by performing a site assessment. - 16 hours PV System Design (PV 202)
This course teaches the step-by-step process of designing grid-tied and battery-based PV systems. Participants will explore sizing strategies, select appropriate equipment for each system type, identify mounting methods and related equipment needed for a safe and structurally sound installation, and calculate voltage, current, and power of the system to ensure its safe operation and code-compliant electrical installation. - 8 hours PV Design and Installation Lab (PV 304)
Hands-on training with no climbing required! This course demonstrates PV system design principles and proper installation practices through the construction of two PV systems – one that’s grid-tied and one that’s battery-based. - 4 hours PV Exam Prep (PV 220)
Prepare to take the NABCEP PV Associate exam, this course shows you what to expect, and includes a 50-question practice test. - NABCEP PV Associate Exam (2.5 HRS)
