This is an Online Independent Study Course:

  • Registration is open all year at any time
  • This is an independent study online course. Students can work through recorded presentations, and exercises at their own pace.
  • Once the coursework is complete you will receive a Letter of Completion for the training.
  • Students have one year to complete the course from the start date to receive credit.

Course Description:

This eight-hour course teaches the basics of wind electric systems. Participants will learn how to define classes and types of wind energy systems and understand how they work to produce electricity. This course will provide a basis for making informed decisions about the design, size, and type of system that may be ideal for some situations but not well suited for others.  

 

Topics covered include: power and energy calculations, DC and AC, wind turbine parts, power available in the wind, lift and drag devices, rotor size and type, orientation, speed control and governing, tower types, foundation requirements, the wind resource, and wind turbine sizes/classifications.
